Good News

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.  Matthew 4:23

Let’s pause and reflect…What’s so good about the good news? Don’t think in generalities, please get specific. Right now wherever you are reading this, please ponder: What specifically is so good about the Gospel?

I love how Billy Graham’s grandson, Tullian Tchividjian, in his book, Surprised by Grace put it: “Only the gospel can truly save you. The gospel doesn't make good people good; it makes dead people alive. That's the difference between the gospel of Jesus Christ and every other world religion. All the others exhort their followers to save themselves by being good, by conforming their lives to whatever their worshiped deity is. But the gospel is God's acceptance of us based on what Christ has done, not on what we can do.”

This past week, I saw many expressions of what is so good about the Gospel lived out through PCC, but I want to highlight two with video links.  In light of all the bad news that fills the Internet and floods our computer screens, enjoy this Good News:

1. Beautiful Day:  We were Good News this past Saturday at Roosevelt School. Watch this 3-minute video and see for yourselves what Good News looks like.

2. The Sabuli Center:  We are Good News in the Democratic Republic of Congo in so many ways.  The Sabuli Center, which houses 70 children who have no homes, feeds and cares for them and provides an education as well for them, is changing lives. Watch this 2-minute video and see for yourselves the Good News that came to Benie.

I know I’m a pastor and you expect to hear this from anyone in my profession, but I have to tell you, the Good News never gets old!  May we all be enamored daily with the Good News and ask God to make us aware of the opportunities we have to be and to share The Good News with people.

Unclear about what the good news is?  Watch this 4-minute video that brings a fresh, relevant explanation of the Good News from one of my favorite authors, Dr. Ravi Zacharius.

This weekend, we will gather to celebrate the Good News!  Come expectant and come ready to serve! We will look at Ephesians 4:25-31. I look forward to being together!

I love being your pastor!
